The Morocco We Call Home
Everything you want to know about Morocco, told by a local team: desert, mountains, ocean and thousand-year-old medinas, all a short flight from Europe.
About Morocco: one country, many worlds
In a single week you can wake up in a riad in Marrakech, cross the High Atlas through the Tizi n’Tichka pass, and fall asleep in a desert camp under the stars of Merzouga. Few places on earth pack so much variety into such short distances.
Morocco sits where Africa, Europe and the Arab world meet. You feel it in the language, which moves easily between Arabic, Amazigh and French; in the food, slow-cooked and full of spice; and above all in the hospitality. A glass of mint tea is never far away.

Good to know before you travel
From the Sahara to the sea

The Sahara
The golden dunes of Erg Chebbi in Merzouga and the wilder Erg Chigaga near Zagora. Camel rides at sunset, nights in a desert camp and a sky full of stars.

The Atlas Mountains
Berber villages built from red earth, terraced valleys, waterfalls and snowy peaks in winter. Perfect for walks, hikes and lunch with a local family.

Kasbahs and gorges
The road of a thousand kasbahs: Aït Benhaddou, Ouarzazate, the Dades Valley and the towering walls of the Todra Gorge, with palm groves along the way.

The coast
Windswept Essaouira, the beaches of Agadir and the north between Tangier, Asilah and Tetouan, where the Atlantic meets the Mediterranean.
Imperial cities and beyond

Marrakech
The Red City: Jemaa el-Fna square, the souks, gardens and riads.

Fes
The spiritual heart of Morocco and the largest medieval medina in the world.

Rabat
The calm, elegant capital on the Bouregreg river, with the Hassan Tower and the Kasbah of the Udayas.

Casablanca
The modern face of Morocco and the Hassan II Mosque, standing over the Atlantic.

Chefchaouen and the north
Blue streets in the Rif mountains, and the white medinas of Tetouan and Asilah.
Moroccan life, up close
Hospitality
In Morocco a guest is a gift. You will be offered mint tea in shops, homes and desert tents, and it is the start of every good conversation.
Food
Slow-cooked tagines, Friday couscous, harira soup, fresh bread from the neighbourhood oven and pastries with almonds and honey.
Crafts
Zellige tiles, cedar wood, leather from the tanneries of Fes, Berber carpets and argan oil made by women’s cooperatives.
Music and festivals
Gnawa rhythms in Essaouira, Amazigh songs in the mountains and drums around the fire in the desert.
Architecture
Riads built around a quiet patio, earthen kasbahs, carved stucco and the great mosques and madrasas of the imperial cities.
Respect and customs
Dress modestly in villages and medinas, ask before taking photos of people, and greet with a smile: “salam alaykum”.
