Private Tour

Our 6 days Fes to Marrakech tour puts the north and the south of Morocco into one private trip. You spend your first days in Fes with a licensed guide, take a day trip to the Blue City of Chefchaouen, then cross the Middle Atlas to the Erg Chebbi dunes, sleep in a desert camp and follow the Todgha and Dades gorges and the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs to Marrakech.

It is the ideal Morocco tour package if you land in Fes and fly home from Marrakech. Three nights in the same riad in Fes keep the first half relaxed, and the second half is a classic Sahara desert tour. You travel privately, with your own vehicle and the same driver-guide from the first transfer to the last drop-off.

Why choose a private 6 day tour from Fes to Marrakech?

Many travellers try to see Fes in an afternoon and Chefchaouen on the way somewhere else. This tour does the opposite: it gives Fes a full guided day and Chefchaouen its own day, sleeping in the same riad for three nights, and only then sets off for the desert. You see the imperial north properly before the long drive south.

Booking privately means your own vehicle, your own guide and your own pace. Prefer to sleep in Chefchaouen rather than return to Fes? We can arrange it. See our guide to private vs group tours in Morocco for the full comparison.

Itinerary of the 6 days Fes to Marrakech tour

The plan below is our standard route. We adjust the stops, the hotels and the camp to your wishes. Distances and driving times come from the road itself and do not include stops.

Day 1: Arrival in Fes

Your driver meets you at Fes airport, the train station or your riad and takes you into the old city. Depending on your arrival time, you can walk to Bab Bou Jeloud, the Blue Gate, and have a first mint tea on a terrace above the medina.

Fes is the oldest of Morocco’s imperial cities, founded at the end of the 8th century, and its medina is still a working city of craftsmen, mosques and schools. The rest of the evening is free to settle into your riad.

  • Driving distance: about 15 km
  • Driving time: about 30 minutes
  • Overnight: riad or hotel in Fes
  • Meals: —

Day 2: Fes – full-day guided tour of the medina

A licensed local guide takes you through Fes el-Bali, one of the largest car-free urban areas in the world. You see the outside of al-Qarawiyyin, founded in 859 by Fatima al-Fihri, the Bou Inania Madrasa, the Nejjarine fountain and the Chouara tannery from a terrace above the dye vats.

In the afternoon you visit Fes el-Jdid, with the golden gates of the Royal Palace and the Mellah, and finish at the Marinid tombs for a view over the whole medina at sunset.

  • Driving distance: city tour
  • Driving time: on foot
  • Overnight: riad or hotel in Fes
  • Meals: breakfast

Day 3: Fes – Chefchaouen day trip – Fes

After breakfast you drive north into the Rif Mountains to Chefchaouen. A local guide walks you through the blue lanes of the medina to the Outa el Hammam square, the Kasbah and its garden, and then you have free time for lunch and photos.

In the afternoon you climb to the viewpoint of the Spanish Mosque for a view over the whole blue town, then drive back to Fes for your third night in the same riad.

  • Driving distance: about 400 km return
  • Driving time: about 7 hours 30 minutes return
  • Overnight: riad or hotel in Fes
  • Meals: breakfast

Day 4: Fes – Ifrane – Azrou – Midelt – Ziz Valley – Merzouga (camel trek)

We leave Fes early for the longest drive of the trip. First you climb to Ifrane, at about 1,650 m, and to the cedar forest of Azrou, where wild Barbary macaques live. After lunch in Midelt, the road follows the Ziz Valley and its palm-filled canyon south.

In the late afternoon you reach Merzouga, meet your camels and ride into the Erg Chebbi dunes as the sun goes down. Dinner, Berber drums and a night under the stars follow at the camp.

  • Driving distance: about 470 km
  • Driving time: about 8 hours
  • Overnight: desert camp in Erg Chebbi
  • Meals: breakfast and dinner

Day 5: Sahara sunrise – Khamlia – Rissani – Tinghir – Todgha Gorge – Dades Valley

Climb a dune for the sunrise, then ride back for breakfast. You visit Khamlia, where Gnawa musicians play for visitors, and Rissani, the old caravan town beside the ruins of Sijilmasa.

Then the road heads west to Tinghir and the Todgha Gorge, where the canyon closes to about 10 m. You end the day in the Dades Valley, among hairpin bends and the eroded cliffs known as the Monkey Fingers.

  • Driving distance: about 300 km
  • Driving time: about 5 hours 30 minutes
  • Overnight: hotel or kasbah in the Dades Valley
  • Meals: breakfast

Day 6: Dades – Valley of Roses – Skoura – Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – Tizi n’Tichka – Marrakech

The Road of a Thousand Kasbahs leads through Kelaat M’Gouna, the Valley of Roses, and the palm grove of Skoura to Ouarzazate. Then a local guide takes you through the Ksar of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987 and the set of Gladiator.

Finally you cross the High Atlas on the Tizi n’Tichka pass and descend to Marrakech, where your driver-guide drops you at your riad, hotel or the airport in the early evening. That completes the 6 days Fes to Marrakech tour.

  • Driving distance: about 330 km
  • Driving time: about 6 hours 30 minutes
  • Overnight: end of the tour in Marrakech
  • Meals: breakfast

6 days Fes to Marrakech tour price

The price of the 6 days Fes to Marrakech tour is on request, because every private tour is quoted for your own group. In practice, four things change it:

  • Group size: the price per person falls as more travellers share the vehicle, so couples, families and small groups each get their own quote.
  • Accommodation level: standard, superior or luxury riads, kasbahs and desert camps.
  • Season: Christmas, New Year, Easter and the spring and autumn peaks book up first.
  • Extras: sandboarding, quad or buggy rides, a private dinner on the dunes, a night in Chefchaouen.

Send us your dates and the number of travellers through our contact page or on WhatsApp, and we reply with a written quote and no hidden costs. Every Morocco tour package we send already includes the vehicle, fuel, the driver-guide, the hotels, the desert camp and the meals listed above.

Favorites Morocco Tours vs other Morocco tour companies

Many Fes to Marrakech tours squeeze Fes into an evening and skip Chefchaouen entirely. Ours gives Fes a full guided day and Chefchaouen its own day from the same riad, then runs a proper desert crossing with a camel trek, a night in the dunes and the gorges and kasbahs of the south.

We are a local team: real driving times, the same driver-guide and no compulsory shopping stops. If you are short on time, the Fes to Marrakech desert tour 4 days covers the desert part only.

Know before you go

  • Day 3 (Chefchaouen) and day 4 (Merzouga) are long driving days. If you prefer, we can make day 3 one way and sleep in Chefchaouen, then drive from Chefchaouen to Fes for lunch on day 4 and continue south the next morning (one extra day).
  • Fridays are quieter in the Fes medina, with many shops closed around midday prayer. Tell us your dates and we plan the guided day around it.
  • From December to February, snow is possible in the Middle Atlas and on the Tizi n’Tichka, and desert nights drop close to freezing. Pack a warm layer; see what to wear in Morocco.
  • In July and August the south is very hot, often above 40 °C. Spring and autumn are the best seasons: check the best time to visit Morocco.
  • Bring cash in dirhams for lunches and tips. ATMs exist in every town on the route but not at the camp; see our guide to the Moroccan dirham and to tipping in Morocco.
  • Pack a small overnight bag for the desert camp, because your main luggage stays in the vehicle.

These activities are optional on the 6 days Fes to Marrakech tour. We book them on request, at an extra cost.

¡Totalmente recomendados!"
