The imperial cities and the interior

The Atlantic coast

The Mediterranean coast and the Rif

January
January is the coldest month, but it is far from grim. For example, Marrakech usually sees sunny days around 18–19 °C. Nights, however, fall to 5–6 °C, and many riads have little heating. Meanwhile, the Sahara is crisp and clear, with frosty mornings. In addition, snow covers the High Atlas, so Oukaimeden may even open its ski lifts. Also, prices are low after New Year, which makes January a smart month for budget travellers.
February
February is similar, yet the days slowly grow longer. Also, almond trees blossom in the Anti-Atlas around Tafraoute, usually in late January or February. March
March is when spring arrives. As a result, temperatures in Marrakech climb to about 22–23 °C, and the valleys turn green. At the same time, the Dades and Todra gorges look their best, with rivers full of snowmelt. Also, the desert is pleasant both day and night. However, the only drawback is Easter demand in some years, so book early.
April
For many travellers, April is the best time to visit Morocco. Typically, days sit around 25 °C in Marrakech and Fes, while nights stay cool. Moreover, wildflowers cover the hills of the Middle Atlas. Meanwhile, the Sahara is warm but comfortable, and sunsets over the dunes are superb. As a result, demand is high, especially around Easter, so reserve riads and tours well in advance.
May
After April, May is warm and stable almost everywhere. In the Dades valley, the Rose Festival of Kelaat M’Gouna usually takes place in early or mid-May. Inland, however, highs reach about 28–29 °C, so start sightseeing early. On the coast, meanwhile, the first beach days begin. In 2027, Eid al-Adha is expected around 16 May, when many Moroccans travel home.
June
June marks the start of summer. By then, Marrakech passes 32 °C, and the Sahara becomes very hot by midday. Nevertheless, the Atlantic coast is at its best, with sunshine and moderate crowds. In addition, the Gnaoua World Music Festival usually fills Essaouira in June. If you want both desert and coast, June still works with an early start each day.
July
July is hot inland. In fact, Marrakech often reaches 37–40 °C, and Merzouga can exceed 45 °C. Therefore, desert trips shift to sunrise and sunset, with long rests in the shade. The beaches, on the other hand, are lively and full of Moroccan families. Similarly, the High Atlas stays pleasant, so a few nights in Imlil balance the heat well.
August
August is similar to July, with the added pressure of the national holidays. As a result, coastal towns such as Martil, Saïdia and Agadir are packed. November
November is mild and quieter. In Marrakech, highs reach about 22 °C. Then, at night, temperatures cool to around 10 °C.
